Scuderia Mantova Corse

Scuderia Mantova Corse was founded in 1981 in Mantua by a group of twenty-year-olds passionate about motorsports, with the aim of bringing together all enthusiasts of the sport to share their passion and experiences.

Fueled by enthusiasm and early successes, the primarily sporting activity was soon complemented by the first organizational experience: the Rally Mantova Corse was born. This was a rally held on dirt roads in the heart of the Po Valley, across the few unpaved roads of the province, between the hills of Lake Garda and the Oltrepò Mantovano. Within a decade, the event gained significant importance in the national rally scene and was included by the C.S.A.I. in the national TRT (Trofeo Rally su Terra) championship.

In 1991, as the centenary of Tazio Nuvolari’s birth approached, efforts were made to revitalize the museum dedicated to the great Mantuan champion, which was housed in the historic Palazzo del Capitano in the heart of Mantua. For Mantova Corse, it became imperative to pursue the path of historic motor racing thus, the Gran Premio Nuvolari was born. This international event, held on the third weekend of September, would gather crews from all over the world in Mantua, arriving with their magnificent cars and united by a common goal: to celebrate the figure of the greatest driver of all time.

In addition to the four historic editions held from 1954 to 1957, initiated by Renzo Castagneto, Aymo Maggi, and Giovanni Canestrini—the three who, together with Franco Mazzotti, conceived and created the "most beautiful race in the world"—more than 30 modern editions of the Gran Premio Nuvolari have been held. The founding members of Mantova Corse, Claudio Rossi, Luca Bergamaschi, and Marco Marani (the three who, together with Fabio Novelli, reinvented the modern version of the Gran Premio Nuvolari in 1991), continue the work passed down by the legendary organizers of the Mille Miglia. The goal remains the same: to allow drivers of the new generations to compete with the cars that made history in those days, paying tribute to the greatest, the most daring, and the most audacious of their predecessors: the legendary Tazio Nuvolari.
